Departmental Seminar Presented by Professor Beth Crisp, Deakin University, Australia
Abstract
While there has been much research about the experiences of social workers employed in statutory settings where there is often widespread dissatisfaction, much less is known about the working lives of social workers in other settings. This paper explores the employment experiences of 20 Australian social workers in faith-based organisations, which are regarded by some as desirable workplaces for social workers, but which can also present significant challenges for employees. In addition to providing insights into social work in faith-based settings, this paper raises more general questions concerning the employment expectations of social workers.
