Event overview
A collaborative arts composition for a group of voices taking place in the beautiful acoustics of the staircase at Deptford Town Hall on Saturday 7 May.
L'esprit d'escalier is a collaborative composition and performance for a large group of voices taking place in the beautiful acoustics of the staircase in the Deptford Town Hall Building.
Conceived by Sharon Gal, the piece, which suits all kind of voices, trained and untrained, invites participation from people affiliated Goldsmiths and the performance creates an opportunity to forge and promote collaborative relationships between departments, staff and students across the university.
We all have a voice and the piece celebrates the uniqueness of each voice, exploring its timber qualities and its representation of the person - a self with a wealth of knowledge, experience and memory. While highlighting this individuality, the piece also demonstrates the power of the human voice to bring together and unite.
The composition evolves collaboratively with the participants, over a few hours prior to the performance. It invites personal interpretations through a process of familiarisation within the staircase environment, a process of exploration and discovery which informs and defines the performance of the piece.
L'esprit d'escalier presents ideas about creativity, communication and collaboration as means of building diverse communities, encouraging self expression of individual qualities and harmonising these with others.
This is a site specific performance with a limited audience capacity. The performance is free, but please arrive early to prevent disappointment.
Audience would be admitted from 3.40pm for a prompt 4pm start.
